Duke Alums Engage NYC - April 28, 2012

Duke NY will again partner with The Children’s Aid Society at their Dunlevy Milbank Community Center in Central Harlem to offer medical services, sports activities and wellness workshops as part of Duke Alums Engage. Last year 130 alumni, family and friends volunteered to help more than 300 adults and children in the Harlem community learn more about healthy living and the importance of staying active.

Duke Alums Engage is a Duke Alumni Association initiative that integrates the concepts of service-learning, civic engagement and reflection. Through this signature Duke program, alums are invited to examine and address the societal issues impacting their local communities.

Here are some of the many ways that you can help:
1. Volunteer on the day of the event
a. engage with kids as they participate in sports activities
b. lead a wellness workshop, cooking demonstration or nutrition class
c. help with logistics (check-in, food, water, raffles, , etc)
d. and much more
2. Volunteer at a pre-event planning activity (put up posters, help with set-up, etc)
3. Join the planning committee (help us find sponsors, plan activities, etc)
4. Donate goods/services for the event, including items for the gift bags and raffle
5. Make a tax-deductible cash donation
