Duke Alums Engage

Event Title:	Duke Alums Engage NYC FREE Community Health & Fitness Day in Central Harlem

Location:	Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club 14-32 West 118th Street New York, NY Duke NY will again partner with The Children’s Aid Society at their Dunlevy Milbank Community Center in Central Harlem to offer medical services, sports activities and wellness workshops as part of Duke Alums Engage. Last year 130 alumni, family and friends volunteered to help more than 300 adults and children in the Harlem community learn more about healthy living and the importance of staying active. Duke Alums Engage is a Duke Alumni Association initiative that integrates the concepts of service-learning, civic engagement and reflection. Through this signature Duke program, alums are invited to examine and address the societal issues impacting their local communities. Volunteer on the day of the event a. engage with kids as they participate in sports activities b. lead a wellness workshop, cooking demonstration or nutrition class c. help with logistics (check-in, food, water, raffles, , etc) d. and much more 2. Volunteer at a pre-event planning activity (put up posters, help with set-up, etc) 3. Join the planning committee (help us find sponsors, plan activities, etc) 4. This will be a great chance for new and existing members alike to meet and network over a delicious dinner. The price to dine is $23 per person, plus tax and tip, which are paid in advance. All you pay for on the night of are your drinks! In order to attend you must pre-register and pay for your seat online through Grub with Us here. Virginia in a Post-Racial World: Rethinking Race, Sex, and Marriage. The book takes a look at modern families 45-years after the Supreme Court declared anti miscegenation laws unconstitutional in Loving v. Virginia. Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice is speaking at Duke today

Durham, NC - Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will speak in Duke University's Page Auditorium on Tuesday, April 10. Rice will deliver the Ambassador Dave and Kay Phillips Family International Lecture at 4:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Beginning April 4, tickets will be available at tickets.duke.edu ($5 processing fee) or at the Duke Box Office (free) to the Duke community starting at 11 a.m. and general public at 1 p.m. Tickets will be limited to two per person. Parking for the event is available in the Bryan Center garage for $5.

Join Duke NY on Saturday, April 7, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (and the first Saturday of every month) at Dunlevy Milbank Center, located at 118th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues, as we volunteer with the 7-11 year olds of Study Now-Play Later, a program designed to make learning and activities fun and motivating. After the morning session, volunteers are invited to join Duke NY for a local lunch in the neighborhood. We usually have at least 10 alumni volunteering at each session.
